This is our group of VIPs posing with the commander of the Jalalabad Provincial Reconstruction Team and the commander of the local Afghan National Army Unit. The PRT concept was developed in Afghanistan to bring people working to rebuild the country closer to the people who need the help. Each PRT has a security force, medical and veterinarian personnel, representatives from the US Dept of Agriculture and US Dept of State, reps from the Afghan Ministry of Interior and Afghan National Army. The PRTs treat people and animals, teach farming techniques, build schools and clinics, and provide security to the provinces in which they operate. This concept of "area ownership" has led to trusting relationships with the people they serve.
